Number of seats

A hackney carriage and/or private hire vehicle is a motor vehicle constructed or adapted to seat fewer than nine passengers. Spaces in vehicles, which have been constructed or adapted to carry wheelchairs, shall be counted in the total seating capacity. Proprietors should be aware that converting a vehicle could affect its taxation class and must ensure that this is amended.
