Hackney Carriage

Hackney carriage vehicles can only be driven by licensed hackney carriage drivers.

Hackney carriage drivers CANNOT drive licensed private hire vehicles (this includes vehicles licensed for school runs only) without having a private hire driver licence.

The only exemption is a person who is undertaking a test of the Hackney vehicle for mechanical condition or fitness.

Please note that there is legislation and case law that endorses these requirments.
