Moving up the Rank

Advice has been given on more than one occasion to hackney carriage drivers regarding moving up the rank but some still appear to be disregarding this and it is causing some disquiet amongst the Trade.

Byelaw 7 (d) states:

"The driver of a hackney carriage shall, when plying for hire in any street and not actually hired from time to time when any other carriage immediately in front is driven off or moved forward cause his carriage to be moved forward so as to fill the place previously occupied by the carriage driven off or moved forward".

I would like to advise you therefore that this breach of byelaw will no longer be tolerated and enforcement action will be taken against any offenders. Rank inspections will be made to monitor this situation.
