Waterfront Way - 20mph limit |
All drivers are reminded that Waterfront Way (old flyover route) is a mixed pedestrian and traffic route. There is a specific reason for the low speed limit. Pedestrians use a crossing over the Taxi/Bus route, at the junction with Chatham High Street and as you have all found out, pedestrians don't look left or right! We must all adhere to the 20mph limit on this road as it is for our safety as well as for others. Many buses and cabs alike have been seen to be speeding on this new route, please do not do it! No one wants to be the first to run somebody over, do they? Think on lads, think on! This limit has been put in place for health and safety - so can every driver, this means you as well, please abide by the 20mph. We do not want to lose the priviledge of using the bus lane! Medway Renaissance have also informed us, that they are in talks with the Police regarding traffic enforcement on Waterfront Way. Also once construction of the dynamic bus station starts, there will be no access to Medway Street from Globe Lane and vice versa for public traffic, Medway Street will be closed to all through traffic completely, other than Buses and Taxis. The general public will have no access to Globe Lane. |

Association activity, March 2010 |
We wish to thank all members for their continued support throughout 2009. Your Association reps are now collecting membership for 2010, now at £8.00. One of our main problems in Medway is Deregulation (non-capping of numbers). The only way for this to be changed is if the Council were to do an 'Unmet Demand Survey', however, this would cost an enormous amount of money and could eventually be born by the Trade over many years to come. Ranking is another huge problem, inherited from past apathy by previous councils and Trade alike. Locally, we are addressing this and have given the Council 16 new locations and extensions to ranks throughout Medway, for them to consider. CCTV is another great concern amongst our Trade. We have been in talks and meetings for 3 years now and at long last, a meeting has been arranged between ourselves, Medway Council, Police and 3 CCTV firms, to provide a demonstration of cameras available. Also, we are continuing to keep in contact with our local MP's, who have been very supportive in the past and we are forging contacts with the local prospective candidates in the 2010 election. Please remember to pay your £8.00 - 2010 membership subscription! Without your continued support we cannot continue to represent you, when you have a work problem or need help and advice! Take care out there and be lucky. Ed. |

Rainham Station |
Can we remind all drivers that Rainham Station is now a Permit Paying Station similar to most Stations in Medway. This means anyone without a valid permit, cannot ply for hire at this Station (rank-up). You may however, pick up customers waiting at the rank as long as there are no permit-holding Taxis available at the Station. Meteor Parking are policing the Station forecourt, as we have had many problems in the past with private motorists. |
Change of Colour (Hackney Carriage) |
We are now in the process of writing to Medway Council, through popular demand from the Trade. You are asking for the introduction of a second colour of metallic silver, for Taxis. We will let you know when we have any news. |
