Change of Vehicle Print

May we remind all drivers when you change your vehicle, if you are in any doubt about anything whether it be tinted glass or anything else... Before you sign any paperwork or part with any of your hard earned cash with the garage...

Please contact the Licensing Unit to have the car checked out about your doubts. This will save any disappointments later when you go for your vehicle test.

Tariff review Print

We wish to thank Brian Dickinson and Graham Smith, from the independent drivers, for counting and examining the votes cast.

A majority agreed to NOT ask for a change to the current Tariff at this time, another review will be held in September 2010.
 
Hackney Carriage and Private Hire fees Print

At its recent meeting, the full Council agreed its fees and charges for 2010/2011, which come into effect on 1 April 2010. These include:

Driver's Licence;

  • Application fee for new licence £25.00
  • 3 year licence £160.00
  • Knowledge test; £65.00
  • Transfer of vehicle ownership; £25.00
  • Plate replacement; £25.00

As is required by legislation, the fees for vehicle and Operators licences were advertised in the local press on 5 March 2010, to be effective from 1 May 2010:

  • Vehicle Licence Fees; Under 3 years old £80.00
  • 3-5 years old £130.00
  • over 5 years old £140.00

Operator's Licence;

  • A = 1-6 vehicles £90.00
  • B = 7-12 vehicles £200.00
  • C = Over 12 vehicles £315.00

(The M.L.T.D.A. has appealed to Council, against these increases.) Ed.

Transfer of Ownership - Section 49 Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976

Both parties need to visit the licensing office and sign declaration forms within 14 days. Please contact the office to arrange a prior appoinment so that a member of the licensing team can assist you.

Enforcement Activity

We will be making changes and increasing our enforcement activity over the forthcoming months. It is also our intentions to work alongside other enforcement agencies as it is proven that partnership working is an effective method of dealing with problems. We will also be promoting our enforcement activity in the local press.

Mandatory Notifications

Change of Address - Section 44 Town Police Clauses Act 1847

Please remember that you must notify us in writing (we will accept a letter sent in by post, letter hand delivered to the Council offices or emailed to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it within 7 days.

Notification of accident involving licensed vehicle - Section 50 (3) Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976

Please remember that you must notify us in writing (we will accept a letter sent in by post, letter hand delivered to the Council offices or emailed to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it within 72 hours of the accident.

We need to know the date and time of the accident, what damage is done to the vehicle, whether or not the vehicle is off the road and an estimated time for repair.

It will be a standard procedure that if you are involved in an accident an enforcement officer will contact you to discuss the accident and where appropiate will ask you to bring in your vehicle for an inspection. If the vehicle is not road worthy and needs work to be carried out by a garage then the vehicle will be suspended until it is presented to an enforcement officer, who will determine if the vehicle can be used for hire and reward.
