Transport Executive Meeting |
On Monday 7th December 2009, the MLTDA will be asked to provide a presentation about the Taxi trade in Medway. We now have it all prepared and ready to go. A lot of hard work has gone into this by Mandy Francis (in her own private time) with Mike Smith, Ian Walton and Jim Smart. This presentation reflects the foundations and aspirations of the Taxi trade for the next 20 years. So we had to get it right, as it is being written into the Local Transport Plan (LTP). This will be put before Central Government in the near future by Mark Johnson, who is responsible for making sure it all works. |

Police Meetings |
This meeting was held at Gun Wharf on Wednesday 28th October 2009. At this venue were Medway Police, Traffic Police, Licensing, Highways, Parking, Safer Medway Partnership, Vokes Taxis, Express Taxis, Strood Cabs, CNC Taxis, Windmill Taxis and ourselves. It was a very good meeting as the only subject was about Taxis, plus our concerns with the above mentioned departments. It has also opened the eyes of the Proprietors present, just how far the MLTDA has come over the last four years! |

Gillingham Station Refurbishment |
On Monday 5th October 2009, the MLTDA were invited to attend a meeting about this refurbishment. At this meeting were Paul Clark MP, Medway Renaissance, Medway Council, Network Rail, South Eastern Trains and ourselves. It turned out to be a very interesting meeting, as our comments have been taken on board and given Network Rail something to go away with and think about. We hope to have more news on this shortly. |

South Eastern Trains Meeting |
A meeting was held at Gillingham Football Club, just to run through a few things about train timetables and the introduction of the high speed link, which starts to run through the Medway stations of Rainham, Gillingham, Chatham and Rochester as from 13th December 2009. We hope this will increase work to and from the Station ranks. The meeting also took comments from the Commuter Forums along the Medway line into London. The MLTDA was invited as an ongoing part of the Transport Infrastructure for Medway. At this meeting we were introduced to a Mike Smith (not our Mike), from Network Rail, who informed us of some of the refurbishment plans for Gillingham station. |

Ambassador's report |
I have been attending meetings and activities as an ambassador for the MLTDA, for some time now. We are informed of ongoing and forthcoming projects, the current one being the demolition of the Sir John Hawkins flyover and the construction of the permanent Bus and Taxi route, named Waterfront Way. There is a delay on this route until mid December 09, over a small number of health and safety issues. The Bus terminus is on hold over planning issues and the Rochester riverside development behind Rochester station will not start until late 2010 / early 2011. There are 2000 dwellings, two hotels, a school, bars and restaurants going on the site over three phases. That is all I can report for now, but I suggest you all visit the Medway Renaissance web site for further details. www.medwayrenaissance.com Sean Reilly |
