New Taxi Rank Print

We have negotiated a new Taxi rank at Dockside.

This is a 2 car rank and is situated opposite the bus layby, adjacent to the water basin.

 Please try and use this rank as much as possible, but no more than two cars at one time. This rank will become very busy once the new development is finished.
 
Pentagon Taxi Rank Print

Quote'; "The new Pentagon taxi rank is on course to be up and running early next year, before work starts on construction of the proposed new bus station on Globe Lane.

The technical drawing, supplied by regeneration unit Medway Renaissance, shows how it will work.

Entry and exit will be from The Brook in both directions.

The rank is designed for 22 taxis and allows drivers to rank up on both sides of the approach, leaving a gap in the middle for any car receiving a radio call.

Ian Walton, vice chairman of the MLTDA, said, "The proposals outlined appear to be workable and we will liase with officials to work in the best interests of all taxi drivers in Medway. "The regeneration of Chatham is important to everyone and vital to the taxi drivers' livelihoods."

Jonathan Shaw, MP fo Chatham and Aylesford, said, "Taxi drivers were very impressed with the plans put before them.

"I am pleased that Medway Renaissance and the Taxi Trade have worked together to resolve the matter. I am sure this will be the start of a very productive relationship - that will benefit everyone who uses the local road network." 'Unquote.
 
Medway Safer Partnership - update August 09 Print

The Partnership radios are now being installed in the radio rooms of the participating Cab firms.

Six out of the nine major fims in Medway are now members! Reactions to what was on offer was "fantastic".

There are now over four hundred sets of eyes, keeping a look out for each others safety. Any firm/circuit can join, no matter how big or small.
 
Temp.Rank - James Street, Gillingham Print

The Taxi drop off/pick up point at the top of James Street with the High Street, Gillingham, is to change.

Medway Council have said this temporary pick up point is to become a permanent Taxi Rank in the near future.

Any vehicle found parked unattended whether Taxi, PH or civilian, could possibly be fined.
 
Taxi Ranks - August 09 Print

Just a reminder of the byelaw, that all drivers will have learnt in order to pass the knowledge.

Byelaw 7 "The driver of a hackney carriage shall, when plying for hire in any street and not actually hired" (d) "from time to time when any other carriage immediately in front is driven off or moved forward cause his/her carriage to be moved forward so as to fill the place previously occupied by the carriage driven off or moved forward;.

What this legal jargon means: As soon as the Taxi in front of you moves, you must also move to fill the gap. After many complaints going in to Licensing about drivers not moving up the rank, Enforcement will be carrying out unannounced spot checks on all ranks in Medway.
